Hypnotherapist Training

Hypnotherapist Training

Hypnosis is used in hypnotherapy to induce a trance-like state which is said to make the subconscious mind more open to suggestion. Through hypnotherapy, a variety of problems or conditions can be cured. Hypnotherapy is said to be beneficial in the treatment of phobias, sleep disorders, grief, depression, overeating, smoking and addiction.

Hypnotherapy should only be performed by a licensed mental health professional who has been trained in the use of clinical hypnosis. The hypnotherapist should also have impeccable professional and personal ethics.

If you are interested in becoming a hypnotherapist, you must first seek education at an accredited hypnotherapy school. There are available online hypnotherapy courses but learning in this way robs you of the benefits of having an instructor who will coach you personally. You should also join a hypnosis or hypnotherapy group to stay current with the developments in the field.

If you want to become a certified hypnotherapist you must seek certification from organizations like the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners and the Hypnotherapist's Union. The Hypnotherapist's Union offers three levels of certification—certified hypnotist, certified master hypnotist and certified hypnotherapist. Members are eligible for the certified hypnotherapist level once they have completed the requirements for master hypnotist and an additional 200 hours of supervised practical experience.
